Motorcycling Australia (MA) is pleased to announce 10 times Women’s Trials World Champion, Laia Sanz, as the official instructor of the Australian Women’s Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Trials Training Camp to be held on 16-18 July 2011 at Pacific Park, Sydney.
The 25-year-old, who has competed against some of Australia’s best female riders internationally, will make the long trip to Australia to instruct the camp in July.
The camp marks the first time the FIM has conducted a training and development camp in Australia.
FIM Sports Director Anders Minken said the training camp was a great way grow and develop the sport of Trials amongst female riders.
“It is vital that we stimulate wanted development on all continents,” Minken said.
“We know that being a female in a male-dominated sport can be a lonely experience, so with the camp we want to raise the level of performance and build friendships and a feeling of belonging to motivate women all over the world.
“It is a good and important investment for a sports federation with gender equality as a strategic goal.”
MA’s National Development Officer Laurence Miller said the camp was a great way for MA to help foster development in the discipline of Moto Trials amongst female competitors.
“To have a rider of Laia’s stature instruct this camp is an outstanding result for Women’s Trials in Australia,” Miller said.
“Some of Australia’s top female Trials competitors have had the chance to see Laia in action at both the World Championship and also at the Trial des Nations, and to receive instruction directly from her will be a great opportunity.
“On behalf of MA I’d like to thank Laia and the FIM for their assistance in making this camp a possibility for the female Trials riders of Australia.”
To add further incentive for riders planning on travelling to Pacific Park for the training camp, this year's Sherco Women's Cup event in Canberra has been moved to the weekend before the training camp.
Earlier this year it was announced Australia would play host to a round of the World Trials Championship in 2012, marking how far the discipline of Moto Trials has come.
