For this event, we tried the 'Pass the baton' scoring system. At morning briefing, the riders were asked to remain at the end of each section they ride, to score the following rider. Theoretically, the scoring clicker tool should not touch the ground during the course of the event, as it is passed from rider to rider at sections end. 'Pass the baton' worked reasonably well, with most riders 'doing thier bit'.
Judging by the scores, the sections were not severe, with most riders completing the course with less than one point per section. The QMP venue proved to be a good place to run a Trial. Ray Buchanan and his staff are also working on a new area for us Trials riders to use in the future. Much clearing has allready being done, revealing some impressive rock features....
At the end of September, Motorcycling Queensland is running 'Moto Fest' at QMP. This event is intended to promote off-road motorcycling to the general motorcycling public. Queensland Trials Sub-Committee is running a "Kick Start Arena Trial" as part of 'Moto Fest'. Some of you may remember the 'Kick Start' events from the early 80's that were broadcast on the BBC in the UK. This event is a change from normal Trials events as it introduces the element of racing against the clock. Have a look on youtube at 'Kick Start 1982 Easton Neston', to get an idea of what we will be doing. There is also prize money to be awarded to the podium placegetters, an unusual concept for us here in Australia.
