On a highly technical course in Telmezzo, Italy, Team Australia produced a tenacious performance in the 2025 FIM Trial des Nations (TdN) on September 21 as its men’s and women’s line-ups both finished inside the top 10.
Returning to the scene of the 2011 TdN on a course plotted on a dry riverbed with steep, rock-strewn banks, Motorcycling Australia’s International Trophy men’s team of Connor Hogan (GASGAS), Chris Bayles (TRRS) and Colin Zarczynski (GASGAS) finished seventh, and in the women’s world championship Jenna Lupo (TRRS) and rookie Alisha Harry (Sherco) were ninth.

All teams had to complete two laps and 30 sections of the Tolmezzo course, with Australia remaining seventh in the International Trophy from start to finish – a four-spot improvement on the 2024 result in Spain.
Australia finished on 49pts, just behind the Czech Republic (44pts) but with a huge cushion back to eighth-place Sweden (74pts).
On a low-scoring day where the ability to soak up pressure was vital, two-time defending champion Japan (11pts) was beaten by an impressive United States of America (7pts) in a mild upset, followed by Germany (11pts) in third.

In the top-tier men’s world championship class, the Spanish trio of Toni Bou, Jaime Busto and Gabriel Marcelli were sensational as their country collected a remarkable 21st victory in a row, this time ahead of Great Britain and Italy.
The Spanish women also won, but in far more nerve-racking circumstances on a countback ahead of Italy after both teams finished on 54pts. Great Britain (62pts) was third.
Lupo and 17-year-old Harry finished on 189pts in ninth – even more impressive as they competed without the luxury of being able to drop a team’s worst score on each section like the three-rider rosters. Andorra was the only other country with two riders, finishing in 11th.

Next up for Lupo will be representing Motorcycling Australia in the 2025 FIM Oceania Trial Championship in New Zealand from October 25-27.
