Stanthorpe, QLD played host to the 2016 Lucas Oils Logan Glass Australian Trials Championships on September 24-25th. Two days of competition on the "Sweet" Family property in the granite belt region, with perfect terrain for trials competition.
Kyle Middleton (Gas Gas, NSW) has secured his place in the record books winning his fourth consecutive Australian Open Solo Championship.
Chris Bayles (Gas Gas, TAS) made his debut on the Open Solo podium placing second on 41 points. Colin Zarczynski (Vertigo, NSW), just 2 points behind Bayles rounded out the podium on 43 points. No stranger to the upper echelons of Trials, Zarczynski was the last before Middleton to have a run of four in Open Solo, ending his run at Pacific Park in 2009. Before him Shane Mitchell did the same in the 80s-early 90s.
In the women's class Kristie McKinnon (NSW) showed again why she is the best in class notching up her 7th Aussie Women's championship. Commandeering the new TRS trials bike, this is the first appearance for the new Spanish Trials bike at an Aussie Titles. Right behind McKinnon's 14 point total was Michelle Coleman (Sherco, NSW) on 27 points. Third and fourth swapped places over the two day event. Sofie Kraft (Sherco, SA) had a more consistent day on Saturday, but it was Sarah Chivers' (JGas, QLD) lower scoring Sunday that gave her the edge to take third spot. Chivers on 80, Kraft on 99 points.
Bradley Bryant (Montesa, QLD) made his move to the top spot in Youth with a solid total of 10 points. Ruben Chadwick (QLD) who hasn't spent much time on the trials bike this year, managed a second place on 31 points riding the new TRS. Isaac Luft placed third in youth on 42 points.
The Junior 13 to Under 16 all-Beta podium was the toughest contest with a slip of concentration over 2 days being the difference between first and third. Dean Collins out-cleaned Ben Franco, both on 8 points, Collins on 65 cleans, Franco on 64 cleans.
David MacDonald who also had 65 cleans, dropped 3 points on a single section to bring him to 10 points for the whole weekend.
Organisers and officials were very happy with how the event ran citing the great collaboration between the QLD Trials Subcomittee and Motorcycling Queensland.

About Trials: Trials is a motorcycling discipline where top riders hurtle their motorbikes up several foot high granite boulders and through obstacle courses that test riders skill, balance and ability to keep their feet from touching the ground. Failing to keep the feet up results in penalty points where the winner is the rider with the fewest points.
