Bankstown Wiley Park Motorcycle Club played host to Round 2 of the NSW Moto Trials Championships held at Appin Motorcycle Complex on Sunday the 28th of August 2016. With rain during the week leading in to the event concerns were raised early about the water levels in the creeks which formed a main part of the sections for the competition but with a little luck the excess water drained away before the trial and no sections were changed or removed. This event site has not seen much trials action over the past few years but with upgrades to the facilities, ease of access and pleasant pits area (including its own wash bays) this will continue to be a great asset to the trials community.
A strong field of competitors were greeted with sunny weather and a very well prepped course where new sections were plentiful and appreciated by the riders and spectators alike. Each of the Expert class riders were all previous Australian Open Solo Champions with Kevin and Colin Zarczynski challenging current Australian Champion Kyle Middleton for the win over 3 laps of 10 sections.
Hot from his victory in the Victorian State Championship the weekend before, Colin Zarczynski was keen to show off his new Vertigo 300cc Ice Hell machine and put it through its paces in dry weather. Colin lead the field after the first lap with a score of 15 to Middletons 19 and Kevin Zarczynski 30. Colin said “After a soft 5 points on section 1 and then another on section 3 during the first lap I was disappointed in myself at my level of concentration and judgement for the sections. I knew Kyle wouldn’t make these mistakes and I felt I was already falling behind. Getting back on track in section 4 with a steady 1 was good and the lap continued to improve from there. The 90 second time limit was always playing on my mind and I cut it fine in a few sections to get out in time but enjoyed the challenge and pressure this adds to the competition”.
On a high from a good second half of the first lap Colin dominated the field, leading each lap and moving further and further out of reach of Kevin and Kyle. The seasoned and experienced Colin looked very comfortable and confident in his riding whilst still learning the traits of his new fuel injected 2 stroke machine. Both Kevin and Kyle were also debuting their 2017 model Gas Gas 300cc machines and they looked smooth and familiar throughout the day. After the trial Colin said “It feels great to be on the top of the podium, it has been a long time and it is perfect preparation leading into the Australian Championships in a months time. I am still getting a feel for the Vertigo but the partnership is proving to be a success. I have been eating well and training hard so I am relieved to see this helping my competition results. The support from my sponsors, family and friends is invaluable. I look forward to challenging for the Championship this year”.
