Whilst the word era may be a little too grand for a two year period, it seemed like it for us here in Coonabarabran. The purpose of this post is to let everyone know that the Coona trials club will be no more after February 2013. The AGM last Sunday saw nobody but the committee in attendance, prompting the decision to pull the plug, as entry numbers were not in line with those needed to ensure the financial viability of the club into the future.
It was a hard decision, but necessary, as we fund our own liability insurance etc at a cost of nearly $3000 per annum. We tried holding more events nearer to where the majority of riders lived, over in Tamworth but this did not work. Initial enthusiasm waned to such a point that we were only getting nine or ten riders, and struggling for observers. The two day event held at Banalasta, on the New England Highway in October, attracted some new faces, but alas not many of the old ones. Thanks to all who made the journey over here, and to Tamworth, during the short time we were operating, as without you we would not have lasted this long. The current financial crisis being what it is, it is probably unrealistic to expect competitors to go the extra kilometres in search of a ride. If we can find 20 riders willing to put up $200 each, in return for a free ride all year, then we may consider carrying on. As this is an unlikely scenario I bid you all farewell. Peter
