With a forecast of rain for the weekend the 10 sections were set at a good level but had the potential to become near impossible if they became wet. The Expert and A Grade Classes completed 3 laps whilst all other grades completed 4 and for a pleasant change the overall time limit did not play a hindrance to the riders, as the participant entry numbers were lower than normal for no particular reason.
Continuing on good form from Round 1, New Zealand Champion Jake Whittaker (Beta) had a great day in the Expert class where everything appeared to go in his favor to produce the winning lap scores of 10, 11 and 4.
Kyle Middleton (Gas Gas) produced a good opening lap score of 15 points before showing some class and taking the lead after a near perfect second lap of only 5 points, which he lost in section 9. Unfortunately Kyle was unable to maintain his second lap form and slipped back into second place with a disastrous final lap of 25 points. Kyle said “I have never had so many fives in an event. It was either a clean or a five. I am disappointed with my performance but happy with the result”.
Colin Zarczynski (Dunlop Sherco) fighting a case of sinusitis had his work cut out for him before he even began the competition. Colin said, “I had a cold for a couple weeks before seeing the doctor. After X-rays CT scans and a number of doctor appointments I am finally being treated for a sinus infection. Besides the headaches and drowsiness I found it hard to balance and concentrate on the event but if I miss a round I have no chance to recover any positions in the Championship.”
Colin produced lap scores of 18, 22 and 16 to take third position and complete a day that he would rather forget. “You name it, I did it. I lost marks for riding over markers, my bike stalled, I rode over the tape and I injured my right ankle in section 10 on the first lap. I tried very hard but I just couldn’t shake this bad day away” Colin said.
Round 3 of the NSW Championship will be contested at Appin Motorcycle Complex on the 1st of August 2010.
