I’m sick of talking about the weather & how we are constantly dancing around it trying to salvage events so no need to elaborate too much further suffice to say that my kids & I sure could have done without having to setup a full event 24 hrs after arriving back in the country all due to Kyogle being too wet. So it was back to the ever reliable wet weather alternative “Overflow” for this months event and many thanks to Phil the owner for allowing us to do so at such short notice.
The “small” but reliable section setting crew that did make the effort did an admirable job, that the 66 Sunday entrants would have to agree with, & we even managed to not only steer clear of the usual well worn & over used “Overflow” ball breakers but created a whole new 4km loop in the process, that I’m sure Logan River will be very grateful for in the future.
We set our usual 10 all division section loop & although the length of it did help spread the field there were still the usual hold ups & it was pleasing to see so many members making the effort to help the observers speed up the queues. Our loyal band of observers did us all proud as usual and after the wash up we had all bar 1 section fully observed all day which needs special commendation due to the diabolical pedestrian access issues this property throws up for all who venture forth.
Due to an extraordinary general meeting being convened at rider briefing we didn’t get underway until 9.30am & even with the 45 min lunch break we still only had to extend the finish time by 15 to 20 mins to allow everyone to finish which still gave us plenty of time to collate the scores while the sausage sizzle was being nuked.
Alas, our run of bad luck extended to three events in a row with Harry Van D having a jammed throttle moment prior to kick off & getting his little finger caught in the spokes of a full throttle spinning rear wheel necessitating his immediate transfer to the nearest hospital. It certainly didn’t look very good for retaining the finger there for a while but I’m pleased to say the surgeons have kept it and time will now tell how the recovery will go. No need to say that we won’t be seeing Harry back in the saddle for a few months but we do have a non riding job for you mate at the upcoming State of Origin clash handing out tissues with your good hand to the New South Welshmen again!
Anyway, thanks to those that did help out over the weekend and refer to the attached pdf file for the full run down results of the day.
