The all new Ossa TR280i took outright victory on the opening day of the NSW championship at the Howard Wallace Masters Shield, hosted by the Trials Club of Canberra near Murringo, in a fantastic debut for the renewed Spanish marque.
Just a month after the fuel injected two stroke machine landed in the country, the revolutionary TR280i propelled Kevin Zarczynski (Fox Motorex Ossa) to top of the leader board on the first day.
Team mate Colin Zarczynski (Dunlop Motorex Ossa) guided his machine up the giant wall on section 6, which no other rider or machine had come even close to conquering, in the final ride of the opening day of series.
The 2011 NSW series is set to be fantastic contest, with the new Ossa taking on 2010 champion Kyle Middletons Gas Gas Raga 300, who came from three points behind after day one to win the second day and the take the Expert win by 8 marks over the two days.
Team Ossa’s series debut started strongly, with Kevin and Colin split by just a single point and leading the trial after the opening lap on what seemed to be a extremely demanding course.
Disaster struck Colin Zarczynski on the second circuit, when a fall into the river drowned the bike, forcing Colin to return to the pits. Team Ossa principle Don Murray helped get the water out and and clean air back into the engine, with Colin back underway with just enough time to rush through and finish the day with that mighty ride on section 6.
As the riders pushed to finish the final circuit, Kevin Zarczynski punctured his rear tyre, and after riding two sections without air was able to borrow a wheel for the final sections from Ossa teammate Luigi Garzoni who had finished the day well ahead of time.
Day two saw a renewed course layout, with plenty of huge walls and massive dropoffs for the experts to conquer. The higher revving of the engines for these obstacles was the teams first experience of strong revs on the bike, and the Team Ossa machines were set too rich on the latest test-map settings loaded to the bikes just the Friday before the trial. A quick pitstop for a new fuel injection map from Mr Murray had the riders back on the pace.
At the conclusion of the two days, Kevin Zarczynski finished second on 99 pts to winner Middletons 92, with Colin Zarczynski just behind in third and Garzoni fifth.
The second round of the NSW Championships will be held on Sunday 10th April at Pacific Park Ski Gardens, Sydney.
