Joe Tarabini passed away at a trial on the weekend.
I got a phone call this morning from Tina Ashenden, a long distance Trials friend who I’ve known for many years. She rang to let me know that her Dad had passed away, at a Trial, on Sunday.
When she was a little girl she was Tina Tarabini, and her Dad was possibly Australia’s best known Trials rider. You don’t have be crowned Aussie Champion to be a champion Aussie. Joe was an inspiration to so many people.
Joe would have turned 80 next February, and there he was, doing what he’s always loved doing in the 30 plus years that he’s been a Trials mate of mine. Waiting in the queue to ride his next section at the Juventus Club Trial, the last Trial in South Aus before everyone turns their hand to Trials Week. Joe had a few issues with his heart over the years, and it appears that this time would be the last time.
Thanks to those fellow riders who tried so hard to revive him.
The thoughts, and condolences, of the Australian Trials family go out to the extended Tarabini family. Hang in there Tina, we’re thinking of you too.
